INW vs ENW: Jhulan Goswami bats for more Women’s Tests in a series after India’s epic win over England
Former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami has called for more Tests in a series after India beat England by 347 runs at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, made history after they recorded the biggest win by margin of runs in Women’s Tests. Goswami, who retired from all forms of cricket last year, lauded Deepti Sharma, who won the Player of the Match award
.
Deepti picked up five wickets in the first innings, after which she picked up four in the second. Defending a mammoth target of 479, India bowled the visiting out for 131 in 27.3 overs.
Goswami, who played 12 Tests from 2002 to 2021, said that the Women in Blue dominated their opponents in a rather one-sided contest.
“When dominance meets excellence as #TeamIndia triumphs over England, and @Deepti_Sharma06 shines as Woman of the Match – a one sided match indeed! Also, is one off Test enough?” Goswami wrote.
After India’s historic win, skipper Harmanpreet lauded his team members for putting in a strong showing.
“Feels great, it shows how we can win the game, everything went to plan and credit goes to every member of the team. Definitely it was a plan to bowl to England like that, we had prepared accordingly. Every player performed their role,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
After beating England, India will head to Mumbai where they are scheduled to lock horns with Alyssa Healy’s Australia in a One-off Test, starting Thursday, December 21 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
