Rovman Powell scored a quickfire half-century for the West Indies in their second T20I against England on Thursday, December 14 at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada.
Powell scored 50 runs off 28 balls with three fours and five sixes as West Indies put up a decent score of 176 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Powell came to bat with his team struggling at 54 for four in 8.2 overs.
From there on, the skipper stepped up and put on 80 runs for the fifth wicket off 46 balls. Powell played a strike-rate of 178.57 and put the pressure right back on the English bowlers.
Powell also played a crucial role in his team’s win in the first T20I of the series on December 12. He stayed unbeaten on 31 runs off 15 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Powell will be on focus on December 19 when the auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place. The Caribbean T20I captain has registered himself in the auction at a base price of INR 1 crore.
Back in 2022, Delhi Capitals roped Powell in at a price of INR 2.80 crore. In 17 IPL matches, the veteran has scored 257 runs at an average of 19.77 and a strike-rate of 146.02 with a top score of 67 to show for his efforts.
It remains to be seen if Powell finds a buyer in the mini-auction. That he has played a couple of handy knocks just before the auction should help him to some extent if not a lot.
