Suryakumar Yadav shared an injury update after he faced issues with his ankle in India’s third and final T20I on Thursday, December 14 at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
During the third over of the Proteas’ run-chase, Suryakumar twisted his ankle while fielding. Thereafter, the physiotherapist came running out to check on the Indian skipper.
The veteran went out of a park for a brief while after Ravindra Jadeja took charge in the middle. After the match, Suryakumar said that his injury is “not that serious”, which should come a relief for India ahead of the ODI series, starting Sunday, December 17.
“I am good. I am able to walk so it is not that serious,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Earlier, Suryakumar became only the third batter after Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell to score four hundreds in T20Is. The right-hander, who is currently the No.1 ranked batter in T20Is, racked up his century off 55 balls.
Suryakumar was over the moon after he became the Player of the Match following India’s massive 106-run victory.
“It was wonderful scoring a hundred, and especially when it comes in a winning cause,” he added.
Suryakumar also went past Virat Kohli in the list of most sixes for India in T20Is. In fact, he is only three sixes away from going past Aaron Finch and Chris Gayle.
Earlier in the series against the Proteas, Suryakumar became the joint-fastest Indian with Kohli to score 2000 runs in T20Is. The Mumbai-born batter made his debut back in 2021 and since then, he has only grown in stature.
