SA vs IND: Aiden Markram looking forward to India challenge after heartbreaking World Cup exit

Aiden Markram said that he is looking forward to South Africa’s upcoming ODI series against India after his team’s exit from the World Cup 2023. Last month, the Proteas were among the standout teams in the league stage, but lost to Pat Cummins’ Australia by three wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The team, led by Temba Bavuma, won seven out of their nine matches in the league stage, losing only to the Netherlands and hosts India. But they faltered in the semis at the hands of the eventual champions, the Aussies.

Markram, however, said that the South African cricketers have recovered from the heartbreak of the defeat and are set for their upcoming set of challenges.

“It’s never nice to exit a World Cup like that. I thought we had something really good going and that does filter into this team – from the good side of things,” Markram was quoted as saying.

“I would say most guys are over it. The nature of cricket nowadays is the schedule is so hectic you are almost forced to move on as quickly as possible so we are pretty much past it and looking forward to the series,” he added.

Markram recently played in the three-match T20I series against India that ended at 1-1. After the first match in Durban was called off, the Proteas won the second game. But India handed them a 106-run defeat in Johannesburg.

The first ODI of the three-match series is set to take place on Sunday, December 17 at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
