R Ashwin revealed his predictions for the upcoming IPL 2024 auction and the price range at which the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc would get sold on December 19.
The IPL 2024 Auction is set to be a pivotal event in shaping the teams for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League. Scheduled to take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19, 2023, this auction will see a total of 333 players going under the hammer.
Among these, 214 are Indian cricketers, while 119 represent overseas talent, including two from associate nations. This year’s auction pool was meticulously selected from an initial list of 1166 applicants, ensuring that only the most promising talents are up for grabs.

With 77 slots available across the 10 franchises, team strategists and owners will engage in a strategic bidding war to secure the best fits for their squads.
Ashwin would reveal his predictions uniquely. The off-spinner used cricketing shots to predict the price range at which some of the big names would be sold in the auction.
Ashwin’s price range according to shots:
Defense: 2 -4 crores
Drive: 4 to 7 crores
Pull: 7 to 10 crores
Slog: 10-14 crores
Helicopter shot: 14+ crores
For Shahrukh Khan, Ashwin predicted that the TN batter would go somewhere between 10 and 14 crores. For Rachin Ravindra, the off-spinner played the cover drive, meaning that he expects the New Zealand star to go for somewhere between 4 and 7 crores.
For Harshal Patel, Ashwin predicted the pacer to go for the 7-10 crore price range. Rovman Powell was predicted to go for between 4 to 7 crores by Ashwin and Gerald Coetzee in the 7 to 10 crore range.
Travis Head was the big surprise from the off-spinner as he predicted the Aussie star to go for something between 2 to 4 crores. Umesh Yadav was tipped by his Indian teammate to go for something between 4 to 7 crores.
The Helicopter shot came out for both Cummins and Starc, as Ashwin tipped them to be big money buys and go beyond the 14-crore mark.
