MS Dhoni recalls batting with Virat Kohli: ‘Used to take a lot of twos and threes’

Legendary India captain MS Dhoni recently opened up on his relationship with Virat Kohli. Notably, Kohli made his debut under the leadership of MS Dhoni in 2008 and went on to become the greatest batter across formats. He even went on to become the captain of the team as Dhoni played under him in the Champions Trophy 2017 and the ODI World Cup 2019.

Recalling his playing days with Kohli, the legendary India captain hailed him amongst the best batters in the world and said that it was fun to bat with him in the middle. Dhoni recalled how the two would run a lot of twos and threes in the middle.

“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun,” Dhoni said at an event.

Dhoni and Kohli were the two fittest players in the Indian team during their playing days. The duo were involved in many memorable partnerships together especially during the T20 World Cup 2016. In the last group game of the tournament, the duo added 67 runs off 31 balls for the fifth wicket as they exhibited their immaculate fitness by running several twos and threes.

In the next game against West Indies, the duo were involved in another brilliant partnership, adding 64 runs for the third wicket once again showcasing their fitness by running quick twos and threes.

It is not like we meet very often: Dhoni

Further speaking ahead, the 43-year-old revealed that whenever the duo get a chance to meet and have a good talk.

“It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dhoni’s return to IPL is uncertain and will largely depend on the retention policies by BCCI. On the other hand, Kohli is playing in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and failed to leave a mark in the opening game scoring just 24 (32).
