Mehidy Hasan donates Pakistan prize money to rickshaw puller’s family amid protests

All-round cricketer Mehidy Hasan Miraz donated the prize money for the Pakistan Test series to the family of a rickshaw puller who was killed in the recent student protests in Bangladesh. Political tensions have gripped the country in the last couple of months, during which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stepped down and left the nation.

Mehidy dropped a note on his Facebook page with a picture along with the rickshaw puller’s family. The 26-year-old said after he came across a video on social media where he saw the rickshaw puller’s son cry, he pledged to donate his prize money to the family and help them out.

“A video that went online recently caught my eyes. The crying voice of a rickshaw driver brother’s child in the anti-discriminatory student movement after his father was killed has made me think again and again. I vowed to stand by my brother’s family. I promised that I will hand over the money for the ‘Man of the Series’ award in Pakistan,” Mehidy wrote in a post.

“Finally, that goal is fulfilled. I was able to hand over this money to them yesterday. I know, this means nothing compared to the lost life. I will be glad if I am able to make their life a little easier,” Mehidy added.
