INW vs ENW: Jemimah Rodrigues ‘wants more’ after India’s win and gesture from ‘big sister’ Smriti Mandhana
Jemimah Rodrigues was over the moon after India secured a historic win over England in the Only Women’s Test by 347 runs at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
The youngster called the victory a ‘special one’ and lauded her team members for giving it their all in the match. She also thanked Smriti Mandhana for handing her debut Test cap. Jemimah shares a healthy relation with Smriti and called her ‘big sister’.
“If this is what playing test cricket feels like, then I want more! The contribution by each and every member is what made this win so special. And what makes it even more special is me getting my debut cap from my Big Sister. PS: I put a lot of pressure the day before on @smriti_mandhana to deliver a good speech and I, after receiving my cap realised, she’s really good under pressure,” she wrote.
Jemimah played a critical role after India recorded the biggest victory in the Women’s Tests by a margin of runs. In the first innings, she batted at No.4 and scored 68 runs off 99 balls with the help of 11 fours before Lauren Bell accounted for her wicket.
In the second innings, Jemimah made 27 runs off 29 balls with five fours at a time when India were trying to stretch their lead. In the end, India bowled England out for 131 in 27.3 overs to resgiter an epic win inside three days.
Deepti Sharma was the Player of the Match after she picked up nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul, and scored a half-century in the first innings. Debutant Shubha Satheesh and Yastika Bhatia were also impressive after their fifties.
