Elon Musk’s mother slams Biden after Starlink loses

Billionaire Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, came down heavily on US President Joe Biden, claiming that his administration unfairly targeted her son and his company. Her remarks came after the US communication regulator opted not to grant nearly $900 million in government subsidies to Musk’s Starlink.

“I am the mother of Elon Musk. His goal is to make this world a better place. President Biden wants to stop him. Have you any idea how furious I am? People in other countries are proud of Elon and do not understand the US President’s motive. Please tell me how I should answer them. (sic),” Maye Musk, who is a veteran model and author wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Tuesday ruling reiterated the agency’s 2022 decision to deny nearly $900 million in rural broadband subsidies for Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX.

After the decision, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr wrote on X, “President Biden stood at a White House podium & stated that Elon Musk ‘is worth being looked at’. When asked ‘How?’, President Biden responded ‘There’s a lot of ways’. There certainly are. The DOJ, FAA, FTC, NLRB, SDNY, & FWS have all taken action. The FCC now joins them”.

Maye Musk made the remarks while responding to Carr’s post.

The Federal Commission said the decision was based on Starlink’s failure to meet basic program requirements and that Starlink could not demonstrate it could deliver promised service after SpaceX had challenged the 2022 decision.

The FCC also cited among its reasons SpaceX’s failure to successfully launch its Starship rocket, saying “the uncertain nature of Starship’s future launches could impact Starlink’s ability to meet” its obligations.
