Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Might Stop Working On Your Smartphone Soon

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has emerged as one of the year’s most anticipated and graphically demanding mobile games. However, despite its high expectations, many players have reported unsatisfactory performance, especially on entry-level and mid-range smartphones. In response, Activision, the game’s publisher and developer, has revised the minimum device requirements, which may prevent a significant number of smartphones from running the game post-update.

What Do The Updated Requirements State?

The updated requirements aim to address ongoing issues with performance, especially as Warzone Mobile prepares for deeper integration with the broader Call of Duty franchise. Activision tweeted, “With that, devices that do not meet the new minimum specifications can continue playing version 3.10 for a limited time (approximately 6 months) provided 3.10 is installed before November 14th.” For many fans, this means their current devices may soon lose compatibility.

Under the new specifications, more than 1,000 devices, particularly Android smartphones with mid-range Qualcomm and MediaTek GPUs, will no longer meet the performance criteria. Some of the affected GPUs include the Mali-G76 MC4, Mali-G52 MC2, Mali-G72, and Adreno 610. These chips are commonly found in mid-range smartphones, meaning a considerable number of users will be unable to run Warzone Mobile after November 14, when the update is set to launch alongside Season 01.

For players who wish to continue with Warzone Mobile, Activision now requires a smartphone equipped with Android 13, iOS 17, or later, as well as a GPU that supports bindless texturing — a feature typically found in newer hardware. Although users with unsupported devices will still be able to access version 3.10 of the game until May 5, 2025, they will miss out on future updates and enhancements, as the game will automatically cease functionality after that date.

The revised specifications reflect Activision’s push to improve game performance and offer an optimal experience, though this may still not guarantee smooth gameplay on some mid-range models. Players seeking the best performance may need to consider a high-end, recently-released Android device.

For iPhone users, the situation is generally more favourable, as most recent models are compatible with the latest iOS version and meet the new performance standards. This update may therefore be less disruptive for Apple users, whereas Android users with older hardware may face difficult choices. The move underscores the increasing hardware demands of top-tier mobile games and how they’re raising the bar for smartphone capabilities.
