We did not play good quality cricket: Hardik Pandya reflects on disappointing season

Hardik Pandya reflected on MI’s disappointing IPL 2024 season and admitted that the team did not play quality cricket. Hardik felt that the MI team not turning up as per their standards cost them the tournament. MI finished off at the bottom of the table by suffering an 18-run loss against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 17, Friday. MI could not end their season on a high as they lost their last home game and Rohit’s blitzy knock of 68 runs was the only thing for the fans to cheer about.

While speaking to the broadcasters after MI’s loss against LSG, Hardik mentioned that it was a very difficult season for the franchise. Hardik went on to say that the team didn’t play quality cricket and that was reflected in their results. He felt that the entire season went wrong for the 5-time champions. IPL 2024, MI vs LSG: Match Report

“Quite difficult. This season we didn’t play good quality cricket, and it cost us the whole season. It’s a professional world, sometimes there’ll be good and sometimes bad days. As a group, we didn’t play quality and smart cricket and it showed in the results. Too early to exactly point out what went wrong tonight. The whole season kind of went wrong. We can pass on this game and look forward to the next season,” Hardik said. IPL 2024 Full Coverage | IPL 2024 Points Table and Standings | 2024 IPL Full Schedule

How bad was MI’s IPL 2024?

It was the 2nd time in 3 years that MI finished at the bottom of the table. Before 2024, MI finished at the bottom of the table in 2022, something they had never done before.

MI finished the 2022 auction cycle with a win-loss record of 17-27, which turned out to be the worst record amongst the 10 teams. 9 of those wins came in the 2023 season alone. Not the kind of season the team and the fans would have hoped for after the much-debated captaincy change.

MI could only muster up 4 wins throughout the season to end up with the wooden spoon.
