Lovlina Borgohain, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen had reasons to cheer for on Day 5 of the Paris Olympics. The 26-year-old Lovlina defeated Sunniva Hofstad and is only one short of assuring India another medal in the ongoing quadrennial event. In another boxing event, Nishant Dev made his way through to the quarters after beating Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio.
PV Sindhu topped her group after beating Kristan Kuuba in straight games. She advanced to the pre-quarters and stayed in contention for a third Olympic medal. Lakshya Sen defeated Jonatan Christie and will now face Indian compatriot HS Prannoy, who defeated Le Duc Phat in a thrilling three-setter.
India had a disappointing day in shooting after both Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh failed to qualify for the final of the women’s trap event. Balraj Panwar finished sixth in the men’s singles sculls after finishing with a time of 7:04:97 in the semi-final.
